In 2013 just me, myself and I, a hobby baker with a big dream stood in my kitchen and wondered what if… I took that leap of faith and registered myself as Dream Bites, a home baker from Bristol. What a journey that last 10 years has been… Going from baking a few cupcakes a week fitting it around my job to managing a successful business full time, getting through 50kg of flour a week and stocking over 250 varieties of sweets.
As a little girl, I loved to bake with my nanny every weekend. She taught me to mix and knead until my heart was content, and then lick the spoon clean with all that lovely gooey cake mixture. I loved to bake for other people and watch their faces light up which was much more enjoyable than eating the bakes myself.
In 2014, after a year of baking cupcakes, I had an idea … let’s add Pick ’N’ Mix sweets. Nervously spending £250 on bulk bags of sweets from wholesale, this was either going to be a really bad idea and I was going to be left with a lot of sweets or I was going to excel in my business plan. Unexpectedly I sold out of sweets in 3 days with my small customer base and I couldn’t get more sweets in quick enough for the orders I had coming in. Just with Facebook at my fingertips and a supporting family, I got stuck right in and have never looked back.
From 2014 storing 10 Haribo tubs in my dining room, to converting my garage into a sweet room filled with pick ’n’ mix sweets, to having a 1800 square foot warehouse. In 2017 I spent my profit on a little van sign written to Dream Bites. This was a big high light of my journey so far seeing my dream come to life. I now had a business vehicle to help me deliver all my lovely treats. All the locals would wave out to us. The van wasn’t to be missed on the roads! Then in 2018 the time came to make the biggest decision of my life… do I quit my full time job which I loved or do I quit Dream Bites which was becoming too big for a couple of hours work a day. I did it!!!! I became a full time self employed business woman! Going from strength to strength, stocking more lines and increasing my customer base I have enjoyed every moment of watching my business grow. Now it’s time to see what the next chapter has instore for us with our brand new online shop.
